2012 Spring Golf
Enjoy a spring day of golf at MountainGate Country Club. Sculpted from the rolling hills of Los Angeles in the shadows of the Santa Monica Mountains, designed by noted golf course architect Ted Robinson. Robinson built the links-style layouts to blend harmoniously with their surroundings, leaving the terrain completely natural. Lush stands of trees frame undulating Bermuda fairways and manicured bent grass greens, with deep roughs, expansive bunkers, and an abundance of sparkling water features.

BOMA’s Real Assets Conference: Shaping LA’s Real Estate Landscape
Real Estate Icons Rob Maguire, Jim Thomas and John Cushman III Shared Inside Stories with BOMA Members and Guests
Rob Maguire and Jim Thomas, industry leaders and former co-managing partners, were the keynote speakers at the BOMA Greater Los Angeles Real Assets Conference & Trade Show at the Hyatt Century Plaza Hotel on April 13, 2012. They have been a dominant force in the renaissance of downtown Los Angeles since they met in 1976. By developing Library Square—including Wells Fargo Center and Library Tower, the L.A. skyline’s signature building—they made possible the saving and renovation of the historic Central Library, the largest public library west of Chicago and a renowned research institution. Other developed properties include the Gas Company Tower, California Plaza, Plaza Las Fuentes in Pasadena, Bunker Hill and Playa Vista.
Moderating the discussion was real estate veteran John Cushman III, who possesses an entrepreneurial spirit much admired by Rob and Jim. John was a broker when the Maguire-Thomas partnership started making headlines and was frequently on both sides of the deal, representing the partnership as a landlord and then bringing the tenant to the table. Hearing the “inside” stories from the people who lived it made for a very memorable luncheon and gave us an insight into the workings of big business.
More than 400 BOMA members and guests were treated to a unique experience when these architects of our real estate landscape shared their thoughts and predictions. Everything from advice on developing friendships and partnerships (“opposites do attract”) to “a dollar borrowed is a dollar earned” was all fair game.
Following lunch there were two breakout sessions, one providing a market overview of commercial real estate in Los Angeles, led by Jim Kruse, SVP, CBRE and the other a technology session dedicated to social media.
BOMA Greater Los Angeles continues its leadership in providing industry education and we all look forward to the future events. Please check our Calendar Tab at www.bomagla.org for dates and topic details.
BOMA Staff Attends Access Washington D.C. Trip
Along with 175 business leaders, BOMA advocate Martha Cox-Nitikman participated in the Access DC annual trip to urge Congress and the Obama Administration to establish a long-term plan for economic growth. Organized by the LA Area Chamber of Commerce, the group argued for pro-business positions on a broad range of issues, including transportation, sustainability and homelessness.
The Access DC delegation was briefed by California Senator Barbara Boxer regarding an omnibus transportation bill which includes funding for the extension of the Expo Rail Line, the Purple Line to the Westside, and the Orange Line to Chatsworth. Ms. Cox-Nitikman was also a part of a small group that met with Representative Henry Waxman (D-West LA) and LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
The delegation also received briefings from other senior officials, including Senator Dianne Feinstein, Majority Whip Rep. Kevin McCarthy, and senior officials from the White House.
BOMA Begins Fundraising Drive For Industry Defense Fund
BOMA/GLA recently sent an email requesting member support for our Industry Defense Fund. The purpose of the IDF is to develop a pool of funds exclusively for promoting BOMA’s legislative agenda. While BOMA’s on-going advocacy efforts are supported by member dues and our Political Action Committee (PAC), the IDF allows a broader response that might include other more resource-intensive activities, such as a media campaign, bus signs or mailers.
Last year, BOMA California defeated AB 350, which would have mandated the retention of certain service employees by commercial building owners. Please help us protect you by contributing to our IDF today! You can contribute online by clicking the link below. We ask for a minimum contribution of $100, but any amount is appreciated.
You may also send in a check made out to:BOMA/GLA
